Originally from Devon, Grace Gillespie is a London-based artist and producer who spent much of 2017 touring as part of the live line-up for 4AD’s Pixx. She’s struck out in her own right since then, creating the gentle sounds of Empty In The Capital.
It’s a hard to define piece of music. There’s a very Sandy Denny (Fairport Convention) feel to the vocals. Confident, yet with a hint of sadness, resonating with folk charm but with an indie-rock ambiance, yet certainly not indie-folk. It’s more literate, layered, and cerebral than you’d expect from a sound that’s so light and accessible, meaning that all in all, it’s a very pleasing and enjoyable conundrum.
