New Music: Hollow Star – Capital

Micah Lopez might be a perfectionist – not only did he wait until he had the right name for his project, but his new track Capital does everything right.

Released under the name Hollow Star, Capital takes from the hardcore intensity of Hüsker Dü (that Minneapolis connection), reworking into a power pop sound that echoes with the tightness of XTC at their most inventive.

That does place the song in the 80s – fans of The Cure or The Smiths will find a lot to love here – as Lopez cites Johnny Marr and Robert Smith as artists he seeks to emulate. But as Hollow Star build up to the release of their Listen EP, Capital gives us a sign that the project has already found its own voice on just their sophomore single.
