New Music: instant crush – RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT ME
Seattle-based instant crush hit the early 00s indie vibe with a pop-aligned attitude on RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT ME from their new LP.
The emotional intensity of the track does hark back to a younger Avril Lavigne, but the song doesn’t dwell solely in that era. In common with acts in the vein of PVRIS, Circa Waves, and Pale Waves, instant crush bring a modern pop sheen into play on the indie music of that time. And, as soul-bearing as the lyrics are, RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT ME is anthemic and very human, a song to be shared with friends and sung out loud.
Band member Megan Cannon says about the track, “I wrote RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT ME in the same week I wrote ALL YOUR FRIENDS. I was feeling such intense creativity that week that is usually not something I can consistently do, and it felt like I had so much to say.”
“Everything written during that time feels connected to the album in the way I was in the same space emotionally. I think this song was really special to me because it really did show the vulnerable side of me as opposed to just outward anger, which is usually what I gravitate towards.”
“This song was written as a full emotional release, and I feel the production really shows that. From the upbeat and wordy chorus that moves as quickly as my brain thinks, to the bridge that feels like a cry for help, I can’t help but be so proud to have created something that captures my inner thoughts and emotions so well.”

The song features on I’M SORRY I DIDN’T BITE MY TONGUE (DELUXE) which was released on the 13th of March. The album can be streamed on Spotify and downloaded on Bandcamp – for band news and more listening options, make your way to TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.
