New Music: Kite – Hand Out the Drugs

In August we covered one of our favourite bands, Kite. They’ve followed up Bowie ’95 with Hand Out the Drugs, again teaming up with Benjamin John Powers (Blanck Mass/Fuck Buttons).

The song sees the Stockholm-based duo, comprised of singer Nicklas Stenemo and keyboard player Christian Berg, apply their extraordinary musical aesthetic to the anthemic, sad banger sound we associate with Scandinavian electronica. Stenemo’s voice feels at times to be the personification of heartbreak. It teeters on the edge of despair, bringing the listener with it, before it and the vast wall of noise that is the joyous arrangement lifts it – and us – up above the clouds, the lyrics evoking a strong sense of yearning in the listener.

Talking about Hand Out the Drugs, they say it’s “a song about the extreme longing for cultural kicks in a controlled, locked down world.”
