New Music: Moonlight Haze – Moonlight Legion

Nightwish is right there in my bio, so when some quality symphonic metal comes my way, well, I’m hooked.

Moonlight Legion is the opening track on Interstellar Madness, the new album from Italy’s Moonlight Haze. The band have their own particular, vibrant take on the genre, it must be said, and it’s a rather good one, with the new album showing the band at their creative peak.

Nightwish isn’t an accurate comparison for the band, which was founded in 2018, as the guitar and percussion come from a power metal direction, fast, furious, and intricate. And if the powerhouse bass line rings familiar to you, it comes courtesy of Alessandro Jacobi, bassist of Elvenking, which is no doubt why it is able to add so much to the energy and drama of Moonlight Legion.

Similarly, vocalist Chiara Tricarico can hit those operatic moments perfectly and is just as easily able to deliver those rock notes too – it’s no wonder Tobias Sammet’s AVANTASIA rates her so highly as to have her perform with his iconic rock project.

Interstellar Madness is out on the 22nd of May via Scarlet Records. The limited-edition marbled burgundy vinyl run of the album is close to selling out on Bandcamp, so you know what to do if you don’t want to miss out!
