New Music: New Antics – Gold Covered Mold

Gold Covered Mold is one of those tracks that makes me think hard about what I’m listening to, and I love it for that.

That wild ride of the vocals, as much Victor Jones as they are Kurt Cobain, gives you a feeling for the intricate themes in the track as a whole. You’re initially hit with a stoner/sludge wall of noise, but the melodic side of Gold Covered Mold soon makes itself known not just in the guitars, but also in the vocal harmonies and synths that pepper the song.

Does any of that make sense? Probably not when you’re reading words on paper; it’s when you hear what New Antics are doing that it comes into greater focus, so… trust me, just listen to it.

“I wrote the instrumental for this song almost ten years ago,” says the band’s vocalist. The lyrics never quite clicked, so I shelved it and moved on. When I started writing for our debut album, I wanted to revisit some of the heavier ideas I had left behind, and this one resurfaced.”

“In a single session, the vocals poured out like it had just been waiting for its moment. I love how this track fuses our synth-driven alt-rock sound with a darker edge, tuned down a full step to become one of our heaviest songs yet.”
