New Music: NINA and Johan Agebjörn – Hush Hush Baby

In hindsight, the shiny late-night pop of Hush Hush Baby feels like one of those tracks that was destined to happen.

NINA is renowned for her wistful, sensual vocals, often paired with a moody electronic arrangement and pop sensibility. Musician and producer Johan Agebjörn is one half of Sally Shapiro, a duo dedicated to making pristine electropop that is defined by its sophistication.

The combination of the musicians is synthpop heaven – Scandipop meets Pet Shop Boys high-octane beats, the arrangement an array of warm tones and pristine synths. NINA is at her most emotive here, haunting and ethereal, as if wounded by love but wanting more. Will we hear more from this combo? I do hope so.

Hush Hush Baby is out now on Bandcamp and is accompanied by a late-night, synth-fluorescent remix from one of NINA’s frequent collaborators, Oscillian.
