New Music: Rainsong – head in my hands

London shoegazers Rainsong have given us another blissed-out insight into their new album with the deceptively ethereal head in my hands.

Sprinkled with pastel-dappled echoes of early Slowdive and Ride, head in my hands asserts itself as looking to the early days of shoegaze for guiding points, highly melodic for sure – but with a subsurface dissonance in the arrangement that suggests Rainsong also have their own voice.

The vocals have an unusual and very specific role in the track, often mirroring the lightness of the arrangement, yet even then, they have more than a hint of melancholy that disrupts the shoegaze narrative. Repeated plays of head in my hands allow you to find those hints and the obscured breakdowns in the reverie, making it as introspective as it initially seems escapist.
