New Music: Shadowing – Alive

Portland, Oregon, quartet Shadowing bring a hardcore energy to play in their approach to post-punk on Alive.

Very representative of the spirit and vision of the band’s Body Neutral EP, Alive has more than a passing resemblance to the early days of what became post-punk, with whispers of The Cure especially present. Spencer Stegeman on vocal duties pivots the track towards a hardcore grounding, yet not disrupting the melodic side of Alive.

Shadowing is helmed by producer and multi‑instrumentalist Keil Corcoran of STRFKR, and Alive is rather different in style and sound of that band. But there remains a similar commitment to push sonic and emotional boundaries, even as Shadowing go to different textures to elicit similar emotional reactions from the listener.
