New Music: Snailgun – Labyrinth

Melbourne’s Snailgun hit the ground hard and heavy with Labyrinth, which features on their Glass Walls album.

After a deceptively low-key intro, Labyrinth is defined by a wall of no wave, barely controlled chaos that is directed by fear-inducing vocals and a sax that would make any creature of the night run back into the darkness.

Some songs are inspired by horror movies; Labyrinth could easily lead to the reverse, the howl of the arrangement and the steady and ominous tones of the vocals feeling like the prelude to unnerving events. If you’re a fan of James Chance or Viagra Boys, or maybe just have a penchant for psychological horror, it’s worth your while checking out the whole album.
