New Music: soft siren – When Morning Comes Around
It’s no exaggeration to call soft siren an underground supergroup, given the impact of its members’ solo careers.
Comprising Sidewalks and Skeletons, CASHFORGOLD, and Michael Coe of Count The Clock, the music of soft siren echoes their individual careers, yet equally stands apart. Here, the presence of the ethereal vocals – especially when those achingly gorgeous harmonies hit – and chilled-out beats are whispered references to their solo work.
When Morning Comes Around, however, has a late-night after-club ease to it, dream pop that sits nicely beside Air, Cannons, and Mazzy Star. Trust me, that combination makes sense! And yet, as it leans in to the pop side of the dream pop duality and the production exudes a hazy warmth, it comes from something altogether pleasingly distinct. There’s talk of an album sometime this year, and I, for one, really want to hear more of soft siren.
