New Music: Soleima – Low Life

  • New Music: Soleima - Low Life

2017 was quite the year for Danish artist Soleima, having won Talent of the Year at the Scandinavian P3 Guld awards, and a nomination for Best Newcomer at the Danish Music Awards. Her idiosyncratic take on the Nordic sound has gained her millions of plays on Spotify – something sure to continue with new track, Low Life.

Wry and reflective lyrics combine with Soleima’s chilled vocal style to be cutting and political in the personal sense, but it’s all wrapped up in an arrangement that mixes addictive Europop stylings with more mellow but catchy downtempo beats.

Talking about the inspiration for the track, Soleima says: “Low Life is a song about embracing whatever you’ve got in life, and about empowering yourself. I had somebody very dear to me in my mind when writing this. They grew up under difficult circumstances and even though they’re still struggling, they’re fighting to get somewhere good. I admire that more than anything.”

Low Life is out now, streaming on Spotify as well as other major digital services. Soleima plays the Eurosonic festival on 18th January – you can find out more here.
