New Music: Sunken – Somewhere Not Real

Siblings Poppy and Finn Billingham had been writing songs for some time before drummer Jonah Winslet, bassist Clem Appleby, and multi-instrumentalist Finn Boxer came their way to form Sunken.  A spell at Stereolab drummer Andy Ramsay’s Press Play studio in south London has resulted in the Hometime EP and the delightful Somewhere Not Real.

There’s a soft, yielding quality to the track that can’t but help but hold your attention. Like the most gentle of breezes, Poppy Billingham’s vocals glide gently over the arrangement, itself a delightful exercise in minimalism. Somewhere Not Real is a beautiful time out from the world, bringing light into troubled times.
