New Music: Tania Cassette – The Flame

If you’re not already aware of her work as vocalist with San Diego’s synthmasters Glass Spells, you’ll certainly hear more of Tania Cassette in 2026.

While the band is on hiatus, Cassette has emerged as a solo artist, with NITE’s twin brothers Kyle and Myles Mendes on production duties for debut single The Flame. What is immediately apparent is that Cassette has her own distinct musical vision, one that is apart from Glass Spells, while still likely to appeal to fans of that band’s Crystals LP.

The Flame has an 80s nocturnal smoothness to it, from the neon-glazed Italo of the early years of that decade to the lush pre-garage dance tracks of Pet Shop Boys that followed. Cassette’s vocal talent has never been in doubt, and here, she allows the dark wave froideur of Venom and Hechizos to melt into a sound that is more romantic and siren-like. This could be the start of even greater things for the singer-songwriter.
