New Music: TAPE TRASH – DAZZLE & DECEIVE

Norwegian indie rock duo TAPE TRASH harness contrasting sounds and styles to help portray some of the confusion in their lives.

That contrast also comes about in where the band members came from to create TAPE TRASH. While frontman Anders Magnor Killerud puts himself in the singer-songwriter tradition, citing Elliott Smith, Judee Sill, and Sufjan Stevens as influences, Kristofer Staxrud spent his teenage years in hardcore bands, offering their music in weighty rhythms and even heavier guitars.

DAZZLE & DECEIVE showcases how so many different facets can be coalesced into a cohesive sonic and lyrical presence, even as the lyrics and arrangement toss and tumble within the wide palette the duo allow themselves. You could call the song emo at a push, but the indie and electronic themes within the arrangement make the track hard to categorise but very easy to enjoy.

DAZZLE & DECEIVE will feature on the band’s EDEN album, which the duo has revealed focuses on a loss of faith and how to negotiate your way in the wider world when that happens.
