New Music: Tarantula Bill – This Doesn’t Have To Be It

With a new album on the way, Denver’s Tarantula Bill get tight and trippy on This Doesn’t Have To Be It.

The album is produced, mixed, and mastered by Jon Fridmann, known for his work behind the controls for The Flaming Lips and MGMT, and he has helped Tarantula Bill to actualise a psychedelic sound that is far from retro, yet retains the essence of the genre.

This Doesn’t Have To Be It hints at something cosmic and all-inclusive in the lyrics, in the style of later works of The Beatles but also the inner-space explorations of Empire of the Sun. The latter gives the track an accessibility to match the more experimental edges of the psych themes, making the song very much about reaching out, as much as it looks inwards at times.

If you’re familiar with, and a fan of, adventurous rock acts like Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Tame Impala, and Beck, then you should find a place for Tarantula Bill in your heart.

This Doesn’t Have To Be It can be downloaded on Bandcamp and streamed on Spotify. The band will be hitting the stage in the coming weeks; for details of those live dates, hit up Tarantula Bill on Instagram.
