New Music: The Mosfets – Radio, Turn Me On

Dutch indie group The Mosfets voyage into the garage rock side of their sound on Radio, Turn Me On.

It’s a tale of love, for sure, as it seems that the narrator’s girlfriend is perturbed and excited in turn by his girlfriend’s actions, though there is another theme here, as well. The track has an easy-going approach to garage rock, hitting nuance, not noise – the band say they were hungover when recording after their first gig in Hamburg went well.

Freewheeling and fun, with the vocals shifting tone to stress both sides of the lyrics’ meanings, it has the feel of a live track put down on analogue, classic and cultish, taking from the past and creating a new future direction for the band.

It had its origins in a conversation where frontman Keith Mosfet casually asked bandmate Ilari to turn the radio on. “I remember laughing because it sounded like a sexual innuendo,” Keith explains. “I’m always looking for interesting concepts to write about, and I liked the idea of blending humour with romanticism.”
