New Music: The Noisy – Neckline

Neckline sounds like one of those songs that’s destined to create audience interaction, as it hits heavily into the pop side of the indie-pop equation.

The track has been reworked for the expanded edition of The Noisy’s 2024 album, The Secret Ingredient is More Meat, the upcoming – and wittily named – The Secret Ingredient is More Meat.

You don’t really pick up on the tempo of Neckline, maybe because the vocals and melody play to the more intimate side of the band’s music. But what’s really obvious, from the vocal delivery and subtle, insistent hooks, is that the song is an open invitation for audience participation. Get your red roses ready!

“We reimagined Neckline to be closer to true pop. Touring off this album, we often covered Pink Pony Club, and we wanted the harmonies, the strings, and the synths to reach towards that Chappell Roan grandiosity, says The Noisy’s Sara Mae. “Plus, both songs, Pink Pony and Neckline, are the same chords over and over through the entire song, so I was excited to build dynamics even within that.”  

They continue, “The deluxe album builds on and crystallizes what More Meat is about: an indie rock album that also reaches towards country and pop, and a lyric sensibility that is unable to be anything but honest.”

The Secret Ingredient Is Even More Meat – which contains a whopping sixteen songs – comes out on Audio Antihero on the 24th of October and is now up for pre-order in cassette and digital editions on Bandcamp.
