Track By Track: Dina Summer – Girls Gang

We’ve covered Berlin-based Dina Summer a few times now, so with the release of their Girls Gang album, we asked vocalist Dina to takes us through the sublime collection of dark electronic pop with a post-punk feel.

Girls Gang

Girls Gang kicks off the album as a tribute to the fierce women who shape us and the power we find in each other. It’s about sticking by your girlfriends, having each other’s backs, and drawing strength from the female figures who light the way.

For me, those role models were the goth queens of cinema and music – dark, bold, and unapologetically themselves. But inspiration looks different for everyone, and this song is a celebration of that shared spirit of sisterhood, support, and fearless self-expression.

Schall & Rauch

Moving into Schall & Rauch, the mood shifts to explore impermanence. This track reflects on a love that once burned brightly and the bittersweet sadness that follows when it fades.

Heartbreak is something everyone goes through, but it helps to know you’re not the only one who’s been there.

Nothing to Hide

With Nothing to Hide, the album embraces timeless romance. This song captures the sensation of a love so deep it feels as though souls have intertwined over centuries – a connection where vulnerability and openness leave nothing to conceal.

Alien

With Alien, I wanted to flip the script on what it means to be an outsider. So many of us grow up feeling like we don’t quite fit in – like we’re from another planet.

But there’s power in that feeling too. In our song, the aliens come in peace to help out humanity – they represent the beauty of difference and the importance of embracing what makes each of us unique.

Halkidiki

Halkidiki is nostalgia in its purest form for me. Every August, my family spent our holidays in Halkidiki by the sea in Northern Greece, a tradition I carried on every summer. During the pandemic, it became even more than that – a second home for Max and me.

We spent so much time there, not just in the summer but throughout the year, and it remains a place deeply rooted in our hearts. This song captures those memories – the sense of freedom, the warmth of familiar shores, and the bittersweet melancholy that comes with looking back.

Promise Me

Promise Me is a heartfelt collaboration with dear friends and extremely talented musicians and vocalists Curses and Joshua Murphy. With haunting vocals and evocative guitar work, this track reflects on the fleeting nature of life and the deep pain of losing someone you love.

Hypnotized

Hypnotized was inspired by my childhood fascination with hypnosis and the golden age of Hollywood. It’s about the seductive power of illusion – the way something can seem irresistible yet be built on deception. Relationships can sometimes feel like that, like a spell that clouds reality. Only truth has the power to break the illusion.

Zombie

Zombie revisits the theme of feeling like an outsider. Whether it’s because of how we look or the path we choose, most of us have felt the tension between fitting in and standing apart.

I’ve always been fascinated by things like aliens, horror films, and paranormal phenomena – strange and eerie themes that I find both fun and thought-provoking.

In this song, I used that imagery as a metaphor for something deeper: the way people can misjudge what they don’t understand. Sometimes, what seems unusual on the surface hides real warmth and humanity underneath – never judge a book by its cover.

Disco Goth

With Disco Goth, the album challenges societal norms by embracing contradictions. Why limit yourself to one identity when you can be both disco and goth, wild and refined, serious and playful? Life is too short for rigid labels, and this track is a joyful call to live authentically, following your heart without fear of judgment.

FOMO

The energy ramps up with FOMO, our unapologetic party anthem. It’s about those wild nights with friends and letting go of inhibitions. After all, no great story ever started with an early night… And if there’s a Dina Summer concert in town, well…you know missing it is simply not an option!

No More Tears

Finally, No More Tears brings the album to a hopeful close. This cathartic song transitions from introspection to empowerment, reminding us that letting go of past sorrows can open the door to a future filled with strength and resilience.

Music has always been my refuge, and through this song, I hope to offer a reminder that even in our darkest moments, we can rise, rebuild, and fight for our happiness.
