New Music: Korine – Heaven’s Servant

Philadelphia duo Korine take the sombre and sober sounds of the 80s – think Black Celebration era Depeche Mode or New Order circa Ceremony – and brew up a bewitchingly modern dark potion on Heaven’s Servant.

The bass thunders ominously as the lighter elements of the arrangement chime like rain on glass, dangerous yet fragile, liable to burst on contact with reality.

The vocals weave a glacial spell, the lyrics taking the listener on an emotional tour de force of a journey thought uncertain territory.

If you like Drab Majesty and Ritual Howls, but crave a more human touch, then you won’t go far wrong with Korine and Heaven’s Servant.

Heaven’s Servant is out now via Born Losers Records, and you can pre-order Korine’s upcoming New Arrangements 12′ LP here. The band will be supporting the iconic Trisomie 21 in October – check out their Facebook page for more information.
