New Music: Secret Treehouse – At Sunrise

Published On: January 24th, 2020|

It was only last August that Norway’s Secret Treehouse released The Big Rewind, and around that time, we reviewed the wonderful Sinking from the album. The band has been busy in the studio since then and the first fruit of their labours is the delightful At Sunrise.

The indie-poppers have a very slick and sophisticated sound on At Sunrise, one which brings to the fore their unerring ear for a good melody. Rock with a pop twist, it still has an edge to it, courtesy of the jagged guitars and bracing percussion. Nods to the 90s invite comparisons to acts as diverse as The Corrs and Garbage, in part down to Anja Bere’s stirring vocals but also the sweeping feel to the hooks and arrangement. On this showing, the new album will surpass the quite impressive The Big Rewind in terms of listener-friendly rock goodness.
