New Music: Esprit D’Air – Leviathan

From London via Japan, Esprit D’Air is a melodic rock/metal band that eschews labels and the music industry. They’ve crowdfunded new single Leviathan, and once you watch the video, you’ll know why their fans rallied behind them.

The song has a real energy about it, with visual kei to the fore at times, but laced with a vibrant electronic and cyberpunk sensibility. Kai’s vocals heighten the song’s emotion and tension to ever-higher levels, giving Leviathan a sound that feels designed for arenas and sci-fi soundtracks. Perfect music for those who like Schwarz Stein and X Japan.

Vocalist/producer Kai says about the track, “We interpreted Leviathan as a huge power or impact beyond human power or knowledge. When we wrote this, we were thinking about how significantly our world has changed with the pandemic and how we can think positively and have hopes in tough times. Through our composition and songwriting, we tried to express lights of despair, human weakness and stupidity, and human wisdom to build a new world.”
