New Music: Douglas – Come With Me

Come With Me is the most recent single from Ashes, the debut album from American artist Douglas. The follow-up single to Clouds, which we covered recently, is a fine introduction to the LP if you’ve not heard it already.

Doomy percussion and icy synths provide a wonderfully dramatic contrast for a vocal presence that is intimate and edgy. Full of passion, yet expressed in a pacey yet often restrained manner, vocals and lyrics communicate a sense of obsession and foreboding that is intoxicating and highly emotive.

Speaking about the lyrics, they said, “The character in the song falls madly in love with someone she can’t have and begins to obsess over him until her emotion explodes in the second half of the song with the line ‘you’re too much for me.’ Her feelings are so powerful that whether or not she ends up being with that person, they could break her. The song was written during the time my future partner and I first fell in love but were forced apart.”
