New Music: Lou Monroe – phantasm

On phantasm, Lou Monroe create a vivid sonic tableau that is initially subtle but ultimately striking. Like a winters day or stirring emotion captured in freezeframe, it builds to a breathtakingly passionate crescendo, even as it possesses an unnerving stillness at its human core. One for fans of Imogen Heap, St. Vincent, and Bat For Lashes.

Their description of phantasm is as beautiful as the track itself, as they reveal, “This song is a fever dream. You remember each creak in the floorboard of this infinite stretch of a hallway. You remember the wallpaper and the way it peels and in which corner.”

“You know where the light dances across the cold wood and where it distorts into new, stranger doors whose contents spill into nightmares. Whose shadow cast makes you feel afraid. You close your eyes. Hope to sink somewhere else. But still, the doors. Doors that steal your hope and fill their distended, splintered bellies with your hope of finding the end.”
