New Music: Goldkimono – This One’s On The House

Goldkimono relives the best of funk and soul from the 70s and 80s on the witty, hip-wiggly This One’s On The House.

The title track of the new album from Goldkimono – Dutch singer-songwriter Martijn ‘Tienus’ Konijnenburg – might occasionally lean into Afrobeat rhythms, but the song revels in its love for the music of Funkadelic and Sly & the Family Stone, retro-infused dance music with a chilled sound but conscious and empowering lyrics.

Says the artist, “Writing This One’s On The House felt like a moment of alignment – realizing how other people’s expectations project onto you and deciding where to draw the line. There’s a balance between generosity and integrity. I’m all for giving, but staying true to myself comes first.”

The album is set for release on the 13th of June, while the single can be streamed on Spotify and SoundCloud. For all the up-to-date news on the LP, check out Goldkimono on Facebook or Instagram.
