New Music: Fortitude Valley – Oceans Apart

Fortitude Valley bridge the gap between classic British indie and Australian rock on the aptly titled Oceans Apart from the upcoming LP, Part Of The Problem, Baby.

The vocals of main songwriter Laura Kovic draw the song towards an uptempo indie sound made popular by the likes of The Primitives and The Vaselines, though it must be said that it is leveraged into a rock sensibility here.

While the song comes across as a lot of fun, the lyrics explore something personal, a drive to become your true self, something we can all identify with. And the song title? It’ll ring a bell with fans of one of the best bands ever.

“Oceans Apart is the name of an album by legendary Brisbane band The Go-Betweens. Another Aussie reference to tie things together. Lyrically, it’s about growing up, moving away across oceans and trying to be successful and happy off your own back,” reveals Kovic.

Part Of The Problem, Baby comes out on the 1st of August via the always-excellent Specialist Subject Records.
