New Music: Shook – Omega

With his Arcana album out at the end of the month, Shook has unveiled his nine-minute electronic opus Omega.

It’s a real time jump of a number: like previous single, Ultra Magnetic, there’s a debt to the pioneering work of formative artists Yellow Magic Orchestra and Kraftwerk, pulsating and retro-futurist.

There’s more to Omega than beginnings and endings, though, as Shook – the nom-de-plume of Dutch producer Jasper Wijnands – finds room for funk, early Detroit techno, and the party vibes of French touch legends like Justice and SebastiAn in the mix.

The resulting catwalk strut of Omega actually got me casting my mind back to A Number Of Names’ Sharevari. Omega isn’t as minimal, but it has that same kind of love for the groove and the party that makes that Detroit classic a floor-filler decades after its 1981 release. Get your best clothes on and get ready to dance!

Arcana is set for release on the 1st of November and is now available to order in a range of limited-edition vinyl formats on Bandcamp.
