New Music: chloe moriondo – girls with gills
The best maximalist pop can sometimes come from just a few building blocks, if the artistic skills and talent are there to pull it off.
On girls with gills, chloe moriondo draws from hyperpop and indie-pop – and the bounciest bass line I’ve heard in ages – that truly serves. The chorus comes across as light-hearted, but there’s more going on here than a pop song that will get you throwing some serious shapes on the dance floor. Great pop makes you feel like you’re the star of the show, and girls with gills does that wonderfully.
“girls with gills is what you hear bumping from the hottest club in atlantis,” says moriondo about the track. “if you can get down, you can get in!! it’s full of sparkle, chaos, bubbles, and mermaids shaking ass.”

girls with gills follows moriondo’s critically acclaimed third studio album, oyster, and both are certain to be well-received on her upcoming UK tour, which hits venues in London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Bristol in the next few weeks.
