New Music: Alien Chicks – Illuminati
Brixton-based post-punk power outfit Alien Chicks demolish genre boundaries and music industry pretensions on the firecracker track, Illuminati.
The trio say their music draws from jazz, rap, Latin, and math rock, and those genres make themselves known, loud and visceral, over the song’s three-minute run.
The mainly rapped vocals sometimes have a dark and gothic rock flair, as the song barrels through lyrics evocative of The Neighborhood Kids and the arrangement is a glorious collision between Atari Teenage Riot, Dreadzone, and RATM. If you need a soundtrack for your righteous anger, Alien Chicks are here to oblige.
“Illuminati is a hate letter to the music industry,” says the band. We hate the way the industry attempts to control a band’s every move, take credit for their accomplishments and, for the most part, generally waste their time with empty promises.”
“Being part of a tight-knit DIY music scene who are all struggling together, we feel it’s part of our duty to hold onto this community and to not let it be infiltrated by those who claim to be music lovers but are not. This is a song for the scene and for those who actually understand what being in a band is all about. Not for the posers in lanyards.”

Alien Chicks are just about to embark on an extensive tour, taking in dates in The Netherlands, the UK, and Germany – including a headline date at The Garage in London on the 15th of October. They also support Sprints in Leeds on the 7th of November. For ticket info and streaming options for their music, hit up Alien Chicks on Facebook and Instagram.
