New Music: Lucy Dreams – Not Gonna Lie

Next month sees the release of VVVVV, the new album from Vienna electronic outfit Lucy Dreams.

Featured song Not Gonna Lie is a great insight into the band’s sound, art pop with a mystical quality, one that has elements of club music, but is more in tune with when the sun rises, rather than the blistering brightness and sweat of a heady dance floor.

The set-up of Lucy Dreams is an unusual one, with human members Zero and One interacting with the 0s and 1s of Lucy, the third, computer-based member of the band. Not Gonna Lie, then, looks to the future, man and machine not so much one, but partners; not AI leading the way, but a symbiotic relationship. Lucy Dreams would not be Lucy Dreams without each providing balance.

That balance flows through the track, sophisticated pop with a bittersweet presence reminiscent of Pet Shop Boys, weighing itself against cosmic futurist pop in the style of Empire of the Sun and mind.in.a.box, catchy and conceptual.

VVVVV is out on the 6th of February, with a series of live dates to follow – you can find ticket details for the London gig in April right here. For details on other gigs, and news about the album, head to Lucy Dreams’ Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok feeds.
