New Music: FOOLSPRING – Daisy
London shoegaze quartet FOOLSPRING have followed up their March single Thistle with the equally atmospheric and moving Daisy.
The band wraps some bleaker textures, both in the arrangement and lyrics, around Gigi’s blend of power and vulnerability within her vocal style. There’s a deliberate discomfort around Daisy, as its quietly spoken confrontation of others’ behaviour and expectations mirror those that Patti Smith brought to the public via Horses and subsequent works.
“Daisy is our third single ahead of an upcoming EP,” says the band. “Built on hazy shoegaze textures and driving rock energy, the track follows Gigi’s perspective during an unsettling encounter with a man at a bar, highlighting the quiet tension, entitlement, and blurred boundaries that so many women face. What starts as a seemingly ordinary interaction unravels into something more uneasy, questioning why that discomfort is so often internalised.”
