New Music: Rainsong – fifteen

With their in tatters album out on the 29th of May, Rainsong share another advance track, the beatific fifteen.

The London-based combo share little about themselves, but their music speaks for itself, as we have covered them quite often in the last few years. Even if you’re familiar with their single from this January, head in my hands, you’ll still be pleasantly surprised by how Rainsong blend the lighter tones of shoegaze with textures that are occasionally darker and heavier. The vocals are like gossamer and the guitar melody light, staying with the expectations of the genre yet still offering up an air of sadness and realism within its escapist tones.

“fifteen is an out-and-out shoegaze pop song,” says the band. “It’s inspired by recalling the intense feelings, hopes and dreams of when you’re a teenager, discovering the world and your place in it and the indelible mark that leaves on you. It’s about trying to rediscover the optimism you once had.”
