New Music: COLLEAGUES – Talking Heads
One half of their new double-sided single – how retro is that! – Talking Heads sees Swedish outfit COLLEAGUES enjoy a new lease of life.
In their previous incarnation, the band formed and performed in a more dream pop milieu, and the vocals retain much of that smooth, escapist quality. A glimpse into the world of their 2030 album, and a renewed approach to the genre that the band terms ‘Memory Pop,’ it layers on synths that flirt with a club sensibility before hitting a decidedly chilled yet emotionally exciting sound. Fans of the emotionally and sonically literate sounds of Lykke Li and Röyksopp really should check out COLLEAGUES.
“What’s a relationship when only existing in zeros and ones?” says the band about the lyrics. “What does a little life mean when lived through the screen in the palm of a hand? Nothing but good. Talking Heads is the no.1 all-time phone anthem.”
It’s something that ties in to the overall theme of the album, which they have described as being “an adult perspective on youth and its consequences: a collection of the band’s collective memories, fragments of the past, and sounds of the future.”
Talking Heads is joined by flip side, I don’t need your love, and can be heard on SoundCloud and Spotify. For news on 2030 and to catch up with all things COLLEAGUES, head to TikTok or Instagram.
