New Music: COLLEAGUES – Weekend
Weekend is the deliciously dreamy indie pop-vibing third single from 2030, the new album from Swedish indie group COLLEAGUES.
It also sees the band treat us to another tasty sample of their ‘Memory Pop’ sound, and on hearing it, you’ll know exactly what they mean by that. Weekend is like meeting up with an old and good friend; the song is different, but the message is familiar. Lyrically it can be hard to digest, as the band don’t hide their intent, but when they are wrapped around such smooth textures and intimate vocals, you’ll find yourself tapping your feet, following the words with a sense of recognition, and humming the chorus.
Reveals the band about the inspiration for Weekend: “This song is an homage to whatever form of recreational escapism suits you best. Always the same plans: whether it’s a beer in the garden or a crack-fuelled bender, it’s an expression of the same need, the aching need for a weekend.”
It’s something that ties into the overall theme of 2030, as well as recent single Talking Heads. “2030 explores an adult perspective on youth and its consequences,” they say. “A collection of the band’s collective memories, fragments of the past, and sounds of the future.”
