New Music: E.M. Kane – One Night In Dalston

The streets of London aren’t paved with gold; however, E.M. Kane has uncovered a precious gem in Dalston.

London can be a lonely place, even when you have friends, more so if – like Kane – you grew up somewhere like Glasgow, where family and community are important. Having spent time at The Young Vic during her time in London, Kane is now back in The Dear Green Place, and One Night In Dalston looks at some of the memories of her time in London.

It’s an anti-bop, if such a thing exists, as a catchy chorus and a sweetly savage indie melody give Kane an insanely irresistible and infectious background on which to bring out some difficult moments triggered by a less-than-enjoyable night out.

In one fell swoop, a chance meeting hits her with the things you miss when away from home: friends, family, and celebration; wondering whether chasing something new is better than what you have already. One Night In Dalston isn’t Celtic rock or pop, but it does examine similar themes to the likes of CMAT and Florence Road; E.M. Kane can easily hold her own against them.
