The mysterious musician behind the Mellified Man persona dissects and reconstructs electronic post-punk with anhedonia.

It takes the listener on a trip to a reimagined 80s, vintage-sounding synths to the fore, and time-warping that essence to the present day. Driven by a bassline that is urgent and organic in tone, anhedonia has much of the metronomic desolation of New Order, given added impetus by mournful vocals reminiscent of Robert Alfons (TR/ST) at his most emotive.

As a psychological concept, anhedonia is often defined by how it affects aspects of a person’s personality, the ability to experience joy and pleasure being dulled and decreased. That blunting of the inner self is echoed in what the artist has to say about the track.

“The song describes someone gradually slipping away from their normal life and daily routine,” states Stockholm-based Mellified Man.

“Creativity no longer brings satisfaction, laughter disappears, and even sadness seems absent. Rather than feeling intensely unhappy, the narrator seems trapped in a state where emotions themselves have become distant and inaccessible.”
