New Music: Echopecker – I don’t wanna be that girl

I’m surprised I haven’t come across Echopecker since they formed in July 2024, because their sound is one that’s certain to get me dancing!

Eldritch electro with a driving bass line, breathy vocals, and relentless percussion, their latest single, I don’t wanna be that girl, plays with expectations as to where that takes you.

The vocal lines, pitched and ghostly, carry a translucence about them so that you’re left pondering the ending of the song’s story. That’s rather fitting, and unsettling, as Echopecker have disclosed that it’s about “two obsessive stalkers who discover their fixation is mutual.”

Witch House plays a prominent role within the pads and production, though; rather like the relationship at the heart of the lyrics, you’ll find yourself drawn to the dark pop sensibility on display. With one eye on the dancefloor in a style fans of Mr.Kitty or Sidewalks and Skeletons will lap up, the other on being the soundtrack for your AHS or Welcome to Derry supercut, I don’t wanna be that girl will keep you awake – because you won’t dare sleep.

You can hear I don’t wanna be that girl and previous releases from Echopecker on Spotify and SoundCloud, and their music can be downloaded on Bandcamp. Keep in the loop with all things Echopecker by following the project on Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook.
