New Music: PowerSolo – Leave Me Alone feat. Nive Nielsen

After three decades of serving up what they affectionately describe as ‘Donkey Punk’ to audiences worldwide, PowerSolo can still kick like a mule.

Leave Me Alone is the third single from the band’s Rip It! LP, and manages to be both a fury-filled rock and roller about a decaying relationship. PowerSolo founder Kim “Railthin” Kix teams up with Greenlandic artist Nive Nielsen on a duet of opposites. Kix is often chilled in response, even when Nielsen lets fly vocally, before they both descend into a fiery chorus, bringing us with them.

There’s some incongruity in the lyrics and their imagery too, so what can be the sound of two people drifting apart, can also be allusions to Denmark and Greenland’s strained historical and current relationship. It’s a bit garage, it’s a bit horror punk, and it’s a whole lot of rock and roll too, leaving me entertained and bemused – hitting the repeat button for another round.

Rip It! is set for release via Crunchy Frog on the 23rd of October and is available for pre-order on Bandcamp in some cool bundles and physical formats. December sees the band rock up in The Netherlands for a short tour – hook up with PowerSolo on Instagram for details.
