New Music: TYNT – I CAN SEE EVERYTHING

You’ll probably quickly fall for I CAN SEE EVERYTHING as soon as you hear the first thirty seconds or so, especially if you’re a fan of classic futurepop.

Hong Kong quartet TYNT play by their own rule book, here. The vocals and synths certainly head towards the cosmic mysticism of futurepop, grounded by a rhythm section that feels more in tune with post-punk.

The three-body problem created by the contrast between the sense of foreboding in the lyrics, the unfaltering positivity of the synths, and the nostalgic and highly focused drums and bass doesn’t create tension. If anything, it achieves an easy, if fragile, balance. Things can be heading towards love, loneliness, or something unnerving – leaving the track full of possibilities – and danger.

“I CAN SEE EVERYTHING is about romantic paranoia,” the band has revealed. “It captures how knowing too much in a relationship can lead to jealousy and pain, with a slight nod to Nirvana’s unreleased demo, Where Did You Sleep Last Night.”
