New Music: Andrew Applepie – Losing

Published On: March 7th, 2020|

Andrew Applepie is no stranger to the blog at this stage, and we generally look forward to hearing his music whether we’re reviewing it or not. The same can be said for his new track Losing – you can check out its charming video below.

A very funky bassline opens the track, with the tight percussion setting the listener up nicely for Applepie’s very indie/rock voice. You can hear echoes of the 70s and 80s in there, though with some very electro and lo-fi filters applied. Lyrically the words seem to come from the heart and hint at an honest though occasionally bleak outlook for the protagonist. But the song balances those shades of fun and fear expertly, even as Applepie moves out of his musical comfort zone.

He says the song is “an introspective story about identity and the confidence needed to be oneself, inspired by Thomas Mann’s Confessions of Felix Krull,” and it certainly shows that in the lyrics.

Applepie has a Patreon page, so if you want to help him continue to make great music, why not have a look on his profile to find out more.

Losing is out now – follow this link to stream or download the song. Be sure to check out Applepie on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for details on the song, as well as news about live dates and upcoming releases.
