New Music: BOOMVISION – HADOUKEN

The industrial electronica of HADOUKEN – yes, there’s a link to a certain game – is the follow-up to recent single CHUN LI. Both will feature on BOOMVISION’s upcoming album, ARCADE.

Both a call to arms and a potential soundtrack for a movement, HADOUKEN has a fire in its belly that is infectious. Industrial rock might meets the choppy propulsive electronica of Fever Ray as BOOMVISION installs the song – and the listener – with a surge of energy, pointing both at those who seek to keep us down while they soar ever higher in towers of wealth and privilege.

HADOUKEN takes its name from the Street Fighter energy-ball move and samples warped, distorted chants recorded by BOOMVISION during the London George Floyd protests.

“Those marches marked a moment when systemic injustice, police violence, and institutional racism were finally being shown in mainstream media,” BOOMVISION says. “For a lot of people, it was the first time they saw it laid bare. That energy, of uncovering and resisting, is in this track.”

They add, “We’re in a climate where governments are using police forces, control, and violence to shatter community resistance. They’re boxing us into fixed identities, using them as tools of surveillance, as weapons to polarise us and demolish group resilience. Identity is human, fluid, and diverse, but they’re turning it into a means to divide us.”

“In the UK alone, over 500 people [it’s in the thousands now – Mark] have been arrested under terrorism laws for peacefully protesting a senseless war and the killing of thousands. That is pure censorship and propaganda. We have to keep marching, gathering, speaking up.”
