New Music: Cherry Angel – White Lake (I Like You)

White Lake (I Like You) by Cherry Angel has a deceptively placid surface, thanks in part to the lush and languid feel of the dreampop and shoegaze fusion in the arrangement.

Cherry Angel’s vocals bring much more emotional energy – and sudden moments of turmoil – to the song. Ethereal and full of innocence, her performance adds to the shock of that possible sucker punch in the lyrics, making you wonder if this is as straightforward a love song as it initially seems. If you’re a fan of the leftfield indie pop of Alvvays or The Marías, this one is for you.

Says Angel about the song, “White Lake (I Like You) is about losing your virginity for the first time. This girl really likes a particular boy and wants to take things slow. She doesn’t want to rush the experience of falling in love and wants to savor every moment.”
