New Music: Dead Little Penny – Dead Together

We covered New Zealand’s Dead Little Penny back in January and now they’re back with an album Urge Surfing, which is due for release November 13^th . Dead Together is an intriguing and enjoyable taster for what’s to come.

The trio (Hayley Smith, Simon Buxton and Sean Martin-Buss) pummel the listener with a dense wall of reverb-heavy guitar and pounding drums. Some classic alternative rock licks break through the wall of joyous noise at times, inviting favourable comparisons with Jesus and Mary Chain, Velvet Underground and Sonic Youth. Dead Together is best listened to loud!

Singer Hayley Smith had this to say about the track, “I just really wanted to write a song that pokes fun in a really open and honest way about the shitty things we do for love, friendship, and a sense of belonging”

Dead Together is out now and can also be streamed or Bandcamp and Spotify. You can catch up with the band on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for news on the album, upcoming live dates and more. The band have a release party for the Urge Surfing album on 15^th November at The Wine Cellar in Auckland.
