Deep Dive: Star Madman x Fonz Tramontano – Together

Together is a 80s-style electro bop from US-based Star Madman and the UK retrowave producer Fonz Tramontano. Bright and glossy, devotees of early Madonna and Hideaway era Kiesza will love this blend of classic synthpop, dance, and New Wave. Lyrics and genesis of Together

Fonz: The track instrumentation started with the intro synth line and then quickly after that the bass. This is my usual starting point when creating tracks.

Star: The melody came to me fairly quickly; the lyrics a bit later in the process. I thought romantic, happy lyrics would fit the mood of the track. I was thinking of New Order, Animotion, Pet Shop Boys, and Dead or Alive when I came up with the melody and lyrics.

Instrumentation

Fonz: Most of my synth parts, including the rolling bass, was created using UH-e DIVA. This an amazing soft synth that I am obsessed with.

Star: I used a variety of softsynths, writing accompanying synth parts to fit the bones of the song that I got from Fonz. Of my parts in the song, the bassline and synth lead in the bridge are probably my favorite.

Recording Together

Fonz: Working with Star Madman has been a dream process. Although we worked in our separate studios over 4500 miles apart in different continents and time zones we gelled perfectly with this track.

Star: This is the fun part; getting all those ideas out of my head into the DAW. Once that was done, the editing and mixing took a bit, but I think I put something together that Fonz was happy with! I really enjoyed working on this one with Fonz; looking forward to more!

Where does Together sit within your overall sound?

Fonz: For me this sits right in the middle and to the front. It is very representative of my sound and how it is developing.

Star: I do a lot of different electronic music genres, but this track stands out in my synthpop / synthwave collection.
