New Music: I Am Karate – Hey Love

Marta Pettersson and Erika Ahlström are the producers and songwriters behind the Swedish electro-pop confectioners I Am Karate. The duo released their first tracks in 2015, but it is 2020 that will see their debut album finally drop. New single Hey Love indicates something good lies in store for us.

The song is an example of Nordic electronica at its finest and most refined. Hushed vocals gently take hold of the lyrics and the listener’s emotions in a soothing and reassuring fashion. Even as it explores feelings of uncertainty and doubt, the confidence in the vocals and the slowly rolling, slightly melancholic arrangement deliver up a convincing air of comfort and warmth.

The duo has this to say about Hey Love: “The song is about insecurity and not feeling sure you’re being honest with your love. Like he’s got a secret world when he’s dreaming that you’re not a part of, and you wonder if it’s more than just dreams.”
