Hailing from Brooklyn, kempt is James Hanna and MC Wolfe, both experienced musicians who nevertheless formed the band only late last year. They’ve already established a confident and captivating style of their own, as you can hear on recent single Commune.

Epic downbeat electropop, Commune holds all the aces: the vocals convey a sublime sadness for a start – love and pain on display in equal measure. There’s hooks that draw you in gently, quiet but persuasive rhythms but mainly a sense of comfortable melancholy; things may not be the best, but we have them together.

Commune and its parent EP of the same name are out now, streaming on Spotify. There are also some cracking remixes by Panama Papers and Mevius that are well worth checking out. If you want to know more about kempt, check them out on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
