New Music: Kill Your Boyfriend – Youth

Youth marks a quick return to the blog for Italian electro-post-punkers Kill Your Boyfriend as they release their Disco Kills EP.

In keeping with their previous single, Discretion, it marks the band’s subtle shifts into a more electronic sound while retaining much of their raw, post-punk-aligned aesthetic.

The latter especially can be heard in the fiery tones of the vocals and lyrics, dripping with passion – and maybe anger – in a way that’ll get you up and dancing, or maybe even in the streets!

It taps into the spirit of bands like Atari Teenage Riot, PiL, and Kraftwerk, though Youth is not as avowedly hardcore or emotionally dissonant as those examples; the emotional effect is certainly the same, as it doesn’t forget that you need to entertain the listener before you can engage them.

Disco Kills is out now via Sister 9 Recordings, one half of a split physical EP with Manchester’s Neu Oscuro and can be found in digital and vinyl formats on Bandcamp. It’s also streaming on Spotify and YouTube Music.

Kill Your Boyfriend are also lining up live dates in Poland, Austria, Germany, and Czechia in the coming months. Details of those can be found on the band’s Facebook and Instagram socials.
