New Music: Morgan Nagler – Grassoline
A whole lot of fun and a little bit transgressive, Grassoline is the witty, woozy single from I’ve Got Nothing to Lose, and I’m Losing It – the new album from Morgan Nagler.
Morgan Nagler has co-written tracks for and with the likes of Phoebe Bridgers, HAIM, Kim Deal, and Margo Price in recent years, and Grassoline proves she has a star quality all of her own. It’s hard to believe on this showing that I’ve Got Nothing to Lose, and I’m Losing It is Nagler’s debut album, and if it contains more tracks like Grassoline, it’s certainly one to watch out for.

Nagler taps into themes and textures that are easily associated with the west coast country rock sounds of the 1970s, but here they are gently and wryly subverted into a stoner rock anthem, given extra impetus by Nagler’s down-home vocal style and calls to a higher being. The track was co-written with Madi Diaz and also features her on backing vocals, and well, that should be enough on its own to get you drawing on Grassoline.
I’ve Got Nothing to Lose, and I’m Losing It is out on the 13th March and can be pre-ordered on Bandcamp via Little Operation. Nagler has a launch party for the album the day before; check out her Instagram for details.
