New Music: One Hundred Moons – The Architect

Ahead of the release of their Black Avalanche album next month, Toronto’s One Hundred Moons have shared featured song, The Architect.

So much of the song seems to draw from dream pop and shoegaze – the reverbed guitars of Collin Young and bandmates, a funereal percussion, and the smooth vocals of Jennifer Vella – but on The Architect, they are pushed into dissonant realms and shadowed spaces.

Veering towards sludge and industrial, while retaining a melodic lightness to the arrangement, it’s the sound of a band that wants to make its mark in its own way. If you’re familiar with blog favourites Karate, Guns & Tanning, you’ll get where I’m coming from, and will most likely enjoy the music of One Hundred Moons.

Just rearrange the cards until they speak to you,
Your alibi,
Was out of line,
Until you turn around and,
You testify,
Till the blood runs clear.
