New Music: Psyclo – Everybody Sucks
Everybody Sucks is a real pivot away from the brooding, electronic sound of recent Pysclo single All My Tears Are Dry.
Lyrically, however, it also explores similar territory. The arrangement may have a light and fun indie-pop sound – and the chorus at the end sounds unnervingly positive, but something else is also going on here.
Everybody Sucks seems to contain an account of what comes across as a depressive episode, one that, when listened to in conjunction with the video, might be hidden under a sunny demeanour and a breezy melody.
Reveals the artist about the ideas behind the lyrics, “The more you give, the more you receive; you reap what you sow; for the world to be better, we as humans need to evolve in a less animalist way.”
“If we all care about each other a little more and stop thinking about our own personal gain, the world will be a better place… In Everybody Sucks, the lyrics go, ‘some just don’t know better, and some just don’t care,” we might suck, but we can always be better,’” she adds.
“[Loved] was not planned; it happened while I was figuring out why I wasn’t happy,” continues Psyclo about her new album. “It took me a while to learn to be happy, to alter my thought process, to stop stressing myself out, and to love myself and value myself.”
“I once thought being happy was the easiest thing, and maybe I was just not feeling it, but then I learnt it was quite the opposite; being sad is the easiest thing to do, and happiness takes a lot of work, personal growth, and reflection.”
“There are many things that can drive people insane nowadays; art is what keeps people entertained, escaped, healed, and sane. I was too comfortable with being in a dark space, and now I know being sad is quite lame; if 99% of the people choose to be sad because it’s the easiest way to go, then I’ll choose to be one of that 1%.”
Loved is out now to stream on all major digital platforms, including SoundCloud and Spotify. For more listening options and all the latest news from Psyclo, head to her Facebook, TikTok, or Instagram socials.
